New Central Co-ordinator appointed for Stop it Now! UK & Ireland 05/05/04
Tink Palmer has been appointed to replace John Brownlow as Central Co-ordinator of Stop it Now! UK & Ireland. John's three year secondment from the NSPCC came to an end in March 2004. Tink will take up the post on 26th July 2004.
We feel extremely fortunate in being able to appoint Tink. She has led Barnardo's campaign agenda against sexual exploitation for the past four years. She has great experience in collaborating with policy makers, practitioners, grant making bodies and the general public to effect change in the interests of making life safer for children. She is also well known for her high profile media work. I am sure that she will build on the foundations laid by John Brownlow and will take Stop it Now! forward to become a truly national campaign.
Stop it Now! brochures win UK Plain English award 02/12/03
Stop it Now! UK & Ireland is to receive an award at a ceremony in London on 2nd December. The Plain English Campaign presents the awards to the best documents submitted to them by members of the public during the year. The award winning brochures are 'What we all need to know to protect our children', which provides family and friends with information about the warning signs of abusive behaviour, and 'Child's Play', aimed at parents and carers of children with sexually inappropriate or abusive behaviour.
Plain English Campaign spokesman John Lister
said: "The two Stop it Now! booklets are excellent examples of information
that is written in an objective way. They tackle a potentially very emotional
subject by giving facts, useful advice and helpful information in a clear, logical
order. Active verbs, short sentences, speaking directly to the reader and not
using jargon or complex terminology mean these booklets display the fundamental
principles of plain English."
John Brownlow, Central Co-ordinator will attend the ceremony with Judith Bentley, the Administrator for Stop it Now! UK & Ireland. John said 'We are delighted with this award. If we can put across our key messages as clearly as possible, the more likely people are to hear and understand them and to take appropriate action to protect children.'
